The Rocca di Gusaliggio is an ancient medieval fortress located near Pieve di Gusaliggio, in the municipality of Valmozzola, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Parma Apennines.
Built around the 12th century, the castle occupied a strategic position on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mozzola Valley. It was an important stronghold of the Pallavicino family, who controlled much of the surrounding territory during the Middle Ages.
The fortress is closely associated with Oberto II Pallavicino, a powerful medieval nobleman who died here in 1269 during a siege.
Over the centuries, the castle gradually lost its defensive importance and fell into decline. Today, visitors can still see remains of its stone walls, arches and a circular tower, partly surrounded by vegetation.
The Rocca di Gusaliggio is a fascinating destination for those interested in medieval history, ancient castles and the natural beauty of the Parma mountains.
